Character Sketch
Character Sketch
My character is Percy Jackson. He is a thirteen year old boy who lives in New York. Percy is a half-blood, which means that one of his parents is a human and one is a god. His dad Poseidon, the sea god, so whenever Percy interacts with water, he becomes more powerful and can also be healed. Percy is also dyslexic and has ADHD which can be hard for him in school. But, as it turns out, the dyslexia and ADHD that he suffers from is what keeps all the half-bloods alive in battle. In the summer, Percy lives at a place called Camp Half-Blood. Camp Half-Blood is a place for other half bloods to be safe from monsters. You can either live at Camp Half-Blood in the summer or all year round. In the last novel, Percy decided to live with his mom during the school year. Percy has three best friends named Annabeth, Grover and Tyson. Tyson is about six feet tall and is very strong. He is homeless and isn’t very smart, so other kids make fun of him a lot. Percy friend from camp half-blood, Annabeth, is the daughter of Athena, the goddess of war. Percy’s other friend, Grover, is a satyr which means that he is a half man- half goat. A satyrs job is to protect half-bloods and to try to get a searchers license to try to find Pan. When Percy goes to Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth and Tyson come along with him. When they get there, the camp is under attack by huge fire-breathing Minotaurs. Because Tyson is not a half-blood, he can’t get past the camp’s magical borders. So in order to save Percy, who is getting attacked by a Minotaur, Annabeth gives her permission for Tyson to come in. Tyson then saves Percy and helps rescue the camp. As it turns out, Tyson is a Cyclops and was immune to fire. At dinner that night, Percy dad, Poseidon claims Tyson as his son. Before this scene, Percy felt kind of bad for Tyson because he was homeless and not very smart. But after Tyson was claimed as Poseidon’s son, he feels that being the son of the sea god and having Tyson as a brother is some kind of a cruel joke. Annabeth does not like Tyson and was a little bit mean to him. Percy wondered why this was, and so later in the book he asked Annabeth why she didn’t like Tyson. To this she answered “You can never trust a Cyclopes”. As the story goes on, both Annabeth and Percy grow closer to Tyson as he becomes a crucial part of succeeding on their quest.

Chapters 1 and 2 Journal Response
In the first chapter, Percy is about to finish his first full year at a school in New York City without getting expelled. On the last day, a group of kids come to visit the school and are giving Percy and his friend a hard time. Percy's best friend is Tyson, who is about six feet tall and has no home. When the class plays dodgeball, the visitors turn into cannibal giants and try to kill Percy and Tyson with flaming dodgeballs. Percy remembers that his sword, Riptide, is in the change room and has to get the door blown off to get it. Tyson killed a few of the giants and then gets hit by one of the flaming dodgeballs and makes a hole in the wall. Percy's old friend, Annabeth then shows up and kills the final giant. The three then jumped through the wall and onto the street. At this point, the characters and Percy, Annabeth and Tyson. Percy is very brave and Tyson is very big and strong. Annabeth is very smart and wise. At this point, we can tell that Annabeth does not like Tyson very much. A quote that describes Annabeth is when she says "Lay off my friend" to the bully Matt Sloan. A quote for Percy is when he says "Let them go" to the cannibal giants when they locked the other kids in the gym. A quote for Tyson is when he asks Percy "I... I am a freak" which shows that even though he is really big, he is very sensitive.
